Personal Chef and Catering reviews:

Joshua is fantastic! I’m so glad we picked him for our wedding. We wanted all vegetarian, mostly vegan, some gluten free food and he came up with lots of creative ideas, never acting like we were limiting him. We received tons of compliments on the food from our (mostly non-veg) guests. He even made our wedding cake, which was delicious! Joshua and his people took care of practically everything, including setup and tear-down, and got it all done efficiently and professionally, for a reasonable price. Also, he is just an all-around nice guy and a pleasure to work with!

Joshua made our special day even more special. I highly recommend him for your next event. Also, go check out his new restaurant on Soquel – his food is great!

My Husband and I began working with Joshua around 10 weeks ago. Our
original goal was to find a fast efficient way to receive healthy pre-planned
dinners. What we ended up receiving was a nightly gourmet treat. Joshua
spent detailed time with us learning our tastes, our favorite dishes, general
likes and dislikes to build a menu we were thrilled with. The best part in
working with Joshua is that he has had quite a bit of International influences
so our menus are the equivalent of having our passport stamped in Indonesia,
Thailand, Brazil, or China. Last but not least, Joshua uses the freshest organic
ingredients, working with local farms when possible and utilizes sustainable
practices in packaging and preparation. Our initial goal of quick healthy meals
has been more than achieved. We can not say enough about Joshua and his
culinary skills. It has been a true delight working with him.
Sincerely,
Nancy and Spencer Smith
Being a busy professional, that is conscious of quality food, diet and
nutrition, the personal chef package meal program has been a wonderful
experience for my husband and myself. The food is delightful. Joshua has a
way of taking well known items and add ingredients that are imaginative, rich
and healthy together to create a new and fresh taste. Just knowing that
we can have quality healthy, gourmet meals without the time of shopping
and cooking has been a blessing. We highly recommend the service.
The Hills, San Diego.
Thank you so much, Joshua, for preparing and setting up the wonderful food.
I have friends STILL talking about the chicken, mashed potatoes and beans, not
to mention the brownies. Everything was wonderful. Talk to you soon and thanks
again!
The food was Great!

Hi Joshua -
Thanks again for all you and your staff did to help our party be such a success
last weekend. Everything went very smoothly and I know a lot of that is because of
all of you. Hope all is well with you. Enjoying time with your baby in the sun? I love
the summer. Have a great one.

Joshua,

Thank YOU, so much for bartending. Everyone thought you were so great, and I
am sure you will be getting some future jobs from some of my guests. I’ll look over
the menus when I get a chance. Thanks for sending them.Take good care. I’ll keep
your number handy!

Joshua,
Thank you so much for everything – you really went above and beyond with that
wonderful tofu dish and I appreciate your willingness to troubleshoot so late in the
game. I will call the grille and make a payment. I will also refer you to our producers
and tour managers if you are still interested in catering for events at the Civic.
Thanks again – you all were wonderful!

Joshua catered our wedding this July and we were blown away by his amazing organic meals and professional service. I heard the chicken was delicious, while I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh in-season fish dish, rice pilaf & colorful goddess salad. His bruschetta was the best I’ve ever had! Josh’s calm attitude and years of experience definitely put my stressed bride-brain at ease and left all my guests with delightfully stuffed bellies. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp reviews from the cafe:

I went out of my way try this surf/cafe/ this and that placeOwner was there, very nice and polite. When he served my food and smoothie, I was shocked—very gourmet looking and tasted damn good. Unique

4.5 stars.

A quaint little cafe with a very friendly owner – but on 4th of July looked like he was the only employee! I really liked the man’s hustle, but there were only 2 or 3 orders ahead of us and we waited about 40 minutes. The poor dude was running around and had to start turning people away once five or six tables had been seated with orders. Long waits hurt 5-star experiences, that’s really the bottom line here.

I ordered a Bacon Avocado breakfast burrito. It was honestly one of the best burritos I have ever had. The ingredients tasted SO clean, man. Usually when I eat a big burrito, it’s one of those “I’ve won the battle, but have I lost the war?” Many burritos sit heavily in your stomach and churn for hours before sending you into a fit of stomachaches or unproductive food coma. Or, at least that’s the case for me as I’ve got a pretty weak stomach.

If you’re not in a rush or if it’s not crowded, come place an order. This is basically what cooked food is supposed to be. Delicious, clean ingredients, perfectly filling, zero regret later. I’m no fan of the wait, but I’m a fan of this cafe and of the owner’s grind.

Amazing food, large portions & super kid friendly. There is a little play kitchen out back and lots of toys. We can chill, enjoy a good meal while our daughter is occupied – does it get any better????

This place is awesome!  We rarely find a place that is as kid friendly and homey.  The service is great and the food is rockin!  Amazing ambiance out in the back patio.

I was looking for a place that served healthy food that wasn’t loaded with salt or cooked to mush and I found it!

Calling it a cafe is right. The menu is on the chalkboard on the wall and from what I understand, it changes regularly, which is why there isn’t a paper menu. The gentleman at the register helped navigate us through the different choices, gave us recommendations and made us feel at home. We were warned that the chef’s style was fusion. It technically was… but it was more that the chef had the advanced culinary skill to provide a healthy spin on popular dishes so that you get all of the flavor without the guilt.

We ordered a combination plate that came with chicken satay, rice and a fantastic salad. I wish that I could eat like this every night!

The atmosphere was extremely causal. After finishing my meal, I nursed my coffee and looked around. The vibe reminded me of hanging out in a cafe in Lahaina but without the travel time or need for a hotel. But speaking of sleeping… I was so contently full and relaxed that the only improvement this place could make would be to offer post meal hammocks. A girl can dream, right?!

This place is definitely a gem with a chill vibe, and the meal was a great value too. I’ll be back!

TIP: There’s a nice, big, 3 hour public parking lot on the other side of the tattoo shop with plenty of off street parking.

Literally just ate here right before work today after my bf once again convinced me it’s delicious (he’s hard pressed to say that about many places so when he does I believe him).

Totes delicious. Per usual anything with bacon and avo I have to get so i went with that breakfast burrito. The eggs were perfectly fluffy and had great flavor while the bacon, being from Niman Ranch was of course delicious. The presentation of it was what made it even more appetizing. It was big so they cut it in half and then sprinkled some kind of sesame seed on top which added a great uniqueness, then put a bit of tapatio, around it, with a small side salad and sliced banana’s. There were a little bit of sweet potatoes in the burrito which i usually wouldn’t like but it was very sparse so it added a perfect hint of sweetness.

My bf had the acai smoothie too which I have to say is one of the better one’s I’ve had. It tasted really fresh, not like it was frozen (but I have no idea, it might have been), with delicious coconut shreds on top.

It’s a huge place too and in a good location in mid town. And most importantly the owner and cook were very sweet and genuine. Overall a wonderful breakfast experience 🙂

Great little spot. Is it a surf shop or a cafe? Really a cafe with a surfing addiction! But what is really addicting is the food. I challenge you to try their food and identify the many ingredients by flavor. Clean, cool and tasty “organic goodness”.
And the check came to the table by helicopter.
If you are in a rush, go someplace else, this is a take your time and a RELAX spot with really good food and amazingly friendly staff.

Went in for the first time tonight….. I have been eyeing it but finally jumped in for a quick to-go dinner.  I originally ordered a side salad, side bowl of soup, and side of brown rice.  The manager(?) quickly came over and pointed out the Chameleon which was…. of course, salad, soup, and brown rice for a savings of $7.00 !!!!  Thats the kind of thing that makes me want to come back to a place – great first impression, nice atmosphere, friendly and relaxed.  The food was great, simple, and hearty.  I can’t wait to try other options.

I enjoy Charlie Hong Kong  and Dharma’s, but not a big fan of the seating offered at either.  One is outside, cold, and cramped, the other too big and vacuous, bad acoustics (yes, I do notice those kinds of things) and all the hanging plants freak me out – so this is a great in-between for Seabright.  Reasonable prices and good quality.

Thanks for coming to my part of town!  You will be seeing more of me…. and then we will work on increasing your hours 🙂

i was waiting for a dinner reservation around the area, and my housemate and I wandered into this place for some late night acai bowls.  Our server (and possibly also the owner? ) was really kind and recommended the acai smoothie ($6.50) for us instead since the acai bowl is filled with  1/2 oatmeal for the same price. When we came into the restaurant, there was a local reggae band playing, and it created a nice ambiance.

The acai smoothie was really good. I definitely recommend this place for your after hours acai- fix, especially when cafe brazil closes at 3pm!

We didn’t get dinner here, but I definitely would come back and try their dinner because all their ingredients are ultra-fresh — straight from the farmers market.

We went in using a Groupon that offered us soup, salad and choice of a few entrees.
My expectations weren’t high just because I’m not a vegetarian or vegan. I was truly blown away by my meal. Every course was crisp, fresh and colorful. The veggie soup was flavorful and had the perfect texture. The chopped goddess salad had fresh mint in it which woke up all the flavors. The chicken enchilada (yes, there was chicken!) was fantastic. Little bits of fresh jalapenos kept your palatte jumping and this was no plain tomato sauce…I tasted coconut. All in all, this meal was a delicious and healthy surprise. Portions were also very generous. We will be back!

Nice vegan wrap with lots of veggies hummus, avo…
affordable, organic, sells local wines…
, nice reggae music, good vibrations in the food,  no tofu which is awesome
so many restaurants think they can cater to vege/ vegan people by replacing meat with tofu its terrible

so happy this place doesn’t try to pull that one over on you

This little restaurant fits so nicely in Santa Cruz. They are a big proponent of using organic foods that are locally sourced. I came here one night after seeing some amazing food porn from a friend who had just been at the restaturant. The place was empty when I walked in, and a bit dark. The seating is cozy, w/ chairs and benches that have pillows. I had the guy at the counter order whatever he recomennded and I was not disappointed. It took a little while to get food (only one chef who pours every ounce of LOVE into each meal he prepares). There was only surfing books to read, so I got bored pretty quickly. Once I got my food, HOLY MOLY! I was so impressed by the size of the portions, as well as the presentation. The chef is truly an artist. I got a burrito, but it was pretty spectacular. I’ve also come back and got the quesadilla, and tacos with whatever house filling special is on the menu. The reason I am taking off a star is because it’s a little pricey. This is probably due in part to where their food is sourced from. If it was cheap food, it wouldn’t be as good as it is!

Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Entrees with amazingly good taste!
I’ve been several times and would say that this chef may make the best vegetarian entrees in Santa Cruz. Enchiladas are amazing!
Salads are made with a lot of kale/collard? greens and are bit too “organic” for my taste, but still good.

I agree about disregarding the bad GroupOn reviews. Little do most GroupOn purchasers realize small businesses lose net profit on groupons. They are a means to advertise and near the expiration date things get hectic. This place has cool owners and amazing food. I cant eat gluten and they have plenty of options including awesome tacos and a large drink menu. Great coffee drinks ! This place reminds me of a laid back version of Cafe Gratitude downtown. Vegan and Veggie options and a welcome locally owned gem on Soquel. I am sure they will expand hours and staff once they can. Best of luck CC don’t let these haters get you down SC is with you .

For all the whiners who gave the restaurant bad reviews recently, you are being completely unfair because when it is the last day for a Groupon and everybody shows up at the same time to take advantage of a deal, service can get backed up. This is not the restaurants fault, it is the fault of those who procrastinate. Grow up.

I have eaten here several times and always have had a great experience; great food, great service and very nice staff.

We purchased a Groupon and received their 3 course meal.
We received their ministrone soup; it didn’t taste like normal ministrone soup, but was tasty nonetheless.
Next was a garden salad. Made from veggies found at the farmer’s market. It was fresh and overall good. I’m not a huge fan of plain balsamic dressing, and they didn’t give me a choice.
We had a few options for our main entree, I chose the “harvest enchilada” and my boyfriend chose the “tofu enchilada”. They were pies, not traditional enchiladas. They were awesome. I especially liked the harvest enchilada.
To go with our dinner, we each had an amber beer from Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery. Our favorite local brewer and our favorite of their beers.
Overall, I will come back and try other portions on their menu.
Organic, local, midtown, cute patio, I hope this place can stay in business.

What a find!!!!!! Truly amazing organic/local food that tastes amazing, looks amazing, and isn’t all that expensive. I’ve been here a few times, and the entrees menu is always different, with about four specials to choose from. Plenty of vegetarian options as well as some dishes with meat. Everything I’ve tried has been amazing. It’s all cooked by one guy, Joshua, who clearly knows what he’s doing.

The soups and salads are great too, as well as the nachos and fish tacos (appetizers). Their “soul juice” (pure fresh fruit) is hit-or-miss, but with the right fruits it’s stellar. Ask what they’re juicing that day. They’ve also got beer and wine and such.

When I first went there they were swamped and service took awhile, however since then it appears they’ve hired some new employees so service is very prompt, and very friendly.

Would definitely recommend! (Oh, I guess that’s what I’m doing here, isn’t it?)

We had less than three days to put together a memorial reception.  Joshua made a beautiful greek inspired menu. It was as beautiful to look at as it was delicious.  I highly recommend using Conscious Creations!

DELICIOUS, INVENTIVE, ORGANIC, AND (mostly) GLUTEN-FREE to boot. NICE!!
My mate & I tried this place tonight. Happy to find a brave new business owner trying to do the right thing with healthy food, & the recipes are very inventive & yummy. The waiter went out of his way to help us figure out what to eat.

I must add however that the choices were a bit limited & disappointing. I wanted to go here because I eat meat (but not grains nor dairy–am allergic plus a low-carb person) but it is hard to find organic meats in restaurants. Yet my mate is a vegetarian. So I was hoping that it would be ideal for us both.

The proprietor has a new menu each night, with 3 or 4 entrees cooked from his imaginative repertoire.

Tonight when we went, for dinner there was only one (vegetarian) choice for my mate, and for me nothing on the entree menu (the meat choice–chicken– was cooked in  soy sauce–allergenic for many–with some sugar added; blah). So…a less “inventive” choice would have been nice, haha! That being said, the waiter then devised a fabulous salad for me with bacon, a delicious tapenade, and other additions that was so rich I had to take half home!

I do understand the owner wants to make something memorable and different from the standard boring healthy type choices “Dharma’s”-type food that seems to be too common in Santa Cruz, and I DO apprreicate that he serves sustainably-raised meats. I think he’s totally on the right track, & since he is already on the healthy & gluten-free page, perhaps there could be a daily choice that is geared towards less allergenic other ingredients as well (no soy, dairy, grains). There are hundreds if not thousands of local residents who eat as I do, so I say this with a desire to help them to possibly gear in a way that they get them more business, if they do indeed read these reviews.

It would also be IDEAL if somehow the dinner menu could be posted daily on their website (hmm, do they HAVE a website??) so folks would know if they want to go on that particular night, since menu is different each night!

As for the breakfast menu, all the choices seem to have dairy or grain, which is limited for many of us.

The patio looks amazing, but we were there at night~would be a FAB setting at lunchtime, and clearly they cater to kids with nice set of kids books & toys and room to roam! A real good vibes place.

Overall, I really do commend this place & hope I can find more on their menu to eat so I can support them!

All I can say is YUM!!!!
So the food was amazing! We had these enchiladas that were made with black beans and spaghetti squash, and coconut milk, topped with teriyaki chicken and kalamata olives, and I thought, “that is just too many different flavors, it is going to taste weird,” but it was sooooo good!
I only gave it four out of five stars because there was not a lot of options or room for adjustments to the menu, which isn’t a big deal unless you are on a limited diet, or are a picky eater. There was a vegan option, but if you are a finicky eater or not eating certain things I would call the night of to see what they are serving.
I really liked the atmosphere of this place and service was very friendly. It was a Saturday night and fairly slow, I think the bad review from the groupon situation has mostly been remedied by not doing groupons for such a small business.
I will definitely be back!

Got a chicken wrap with avo, holy crap, it was delicious and filling. And the side sauce was amazing, a tomato, peanut chipotle that perfectly accented the wrap. Also had the nachos which seemed especially delicious with a chipotle aioli and an array of fresh greens and herbs. This place is a little pricey but you can see that the extra $$ goes into the quality of the food and the service and ambiance of the cafe make it a great experience. Would definitely return!

We had our son’s 16th birthday dinner at this place. This restaruant has a hip and friendly atmosphere, and the food was great! I was impressed that they use only organic ingredients but their price was so reasonable.

My son, a typical teenager who loves humbergers, enjoyed his chichen pot pie, brown rice and salad, and finished every single bit on his plate.  I had a fish poki taco dinner, which was very flavorful and yummy. It had a unique international taste of Mexican and somewhat Asian. It’s strongly recommended. I also had a bite from my husband’s lavash, a vegan dish, which had exotic flavor and was delicious.

I wish we had a conciencious restaurant like Conscious Creations in our town (near Sacramento). We will definitely stop for dinner again at this restaurant whenever we visit Santa Cruz.

What a great new addition to mid-town. We had a need for a good, healthy, delicious place for good food and beer. The outdoor patio is a huge bonus…. the first time we were here we ordered a Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery beer and enjoyed it on the back patio in the sun…
Today we went in for brunch and were stoked to find out that they serve “Soul Juice Mimosas” all day! These mimosas are like none you have ever had before…..made with champagne and soul juice which is a puree of all fruit that is local and seasonal…..right now it is made from Strawberries, peaches, and pears I believe…. it is delicious and full of antioxidants ….if you aren’t into the champagne part you can try a regular glass of the soul juice…. Also on tap was kombucha …todays flavor was watermelon which was also delicious… For food we had the  banana pancakes which made me want to sing out Jack Johnsons “Banana Pankcake” song…. I swear to you each bite was like a discovery… The pancakes were possibly whole grain or whole wheat…but inside….bananas, raisins, walnuts, chocolate chips, cinnamon, coconut… and topped with a little shaved coconut, some fruit puree, and your choice of syrup ( I chose the agave) ….delish…
My husband had the breakfast burrito which was filled with all sorts of goodies… the bonus was that you could get extra fillings…..avocado, bacon, greens, pico de gallo, secret sauce…..
Add a cup of fresh brewed Joe and call it the perfect Sunday!
We will be back for sure!

****Other cool notes about this place: the chocolate bar…need a quick sweet treat? try one of the many types of truffles from the display case….or some of the house made banana bread…… beer, wine, and champagne served along with a variety of other drinks kombucha, soul juice, coconut water……etc…. Rumor has it they will soon be serving House made Bloody Mary’s made with sourkraut juice and sake!! ***

What am I trying next time???? The organic greens salad and fish tacos…. I hear the tacos are amazing!!

I was so impressed with our experience at Conscious Creations last night. My boyfriend and I had been a little scared to try it at first as the limited menu was a little intimidating but we were very pleasantly surprised. The soups and salads were brought out very quickly to our table. The entrees were incredibly delicious and made with the best local and organic ingredients. I ordered the Mediterranean baked chicken and my boyfriend ordered the vegetable satay and we enjoyed both tremendously. On the side was a stuffed bell pepper that was served upon this amazing white sauce. Needless to say, we were completely stuffed when we left! That also had something to do with us ordering pints of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing wheat ale (my favorite from SCMB). The patio was absolutely lovely on a nice September night. This is an awesome spot to bring a date! Great ambiance. The service was awesome, the owner was there and you can tell he really cares about his business and customers! Can’t wait to come here again.

Our family of four just had dinner here tonight. The food was excellent.  They were extremely nice to our kids offering puzzles, books, crayons and had no problem when our 1 year old knocked over a glass of water. Our 2 year old said “I love it here, it makes me feel really good.” I agree, it is relaxed and very comfortable in there. I would definitely go back.

Delicious! This is just the restaurant Santa Cruz needs. It has a laid back, eclectic atmosphere, awesome service, and really interesting and flavorful foods. I love that the owner is right there preparing the food, willing to chat up customers. Will return!

I found a coupon deal in the paper for this place so I tried it tonight.  Wow! was I impressed.  I am no hippy-dippy, I am just a chocoholic trying to eat healthier.  I will almost always choose organic if given a choice but I have no cravings at all for tofu!  What I found here was Chef/Owner Joshua Keen worked up some magical creations from daily farmers market purchases, I could almost feel the vitality going through me with each sip of of warm and delicious root vegetable miso soup.  The second course of my 3 course meal was a fresh salad with tasty vinaigrette, I am not even sure the names of all the vegetables it contained but my digestive system was loving it.  And for the entree, chicken vegetable lasagna, so flavorful and fresh I ate every bit of it.  What a satisfying and delicious meal made all the better knowing all fresh local ingredients were used. I plan to return to Conscious Creations Cafe with friends and family, this is the way fresh, organic local cooking should be done.  Great job Chef!

There are very few “healthy” places where the food is this good. It is very casual, so don’t expect a traditional dining experience, but I think it is just about the best health food in our town.

However, now it has closed and we are sad.

Just went into the new cafe on Soquel Ave for breakfast, the breakfast burrito was amazing!! Best I have ever had, ordered it ‘with everything’ which included avocado, bacon (BEST bacon I have ever had) and a chipotle aioli.  I also ordered a latte, it was piping hot but very good.  I will be back for dinner soon, I know it will be good because everything is so fresh and a wonderful fusion of flavors.

Great decor peaceful Buddhas, quin yin, cool bamboo, fountains kinda Zen beachy Hawaiian interior and back garden patio.  Amazing salad with Kale, I think dirty girl baby greens, cucumbers and a good dressing.  Also nice presentation on the salad.  Pepper soup had a really tasty salsa on top also nice presentation with a chip artistically placed.  Entrees tasty interesting flavors I had some veggie pasta I usually hate pasta but this was good but I wish to there would have been more veggie options varies every night so call if you’re a veggie vegan and get the menu.  I want to go back and try the burrito/muffins looked really tasty.  Very impressed with artistic display of food and quality of local organic vegetables.  Also local clover organic dairy yes I looked in his fridge.  Wish him the best of luck… a true hidden gem.  Oh also my friend at the Farmer’s market said she’s eaten a lot of stuff these catered and it’s amazing.  Josh/owner seems to be very engaged in this business which shows in the food presentations./cool decor.  The food server was a treat Brazilian guy…

first off, not only is this place dog friendly but my dogs were well loved.  treats and pettings and even a pumpkin for my dog to busy himself with, while we decided on what to order.  amazing table service!  AMAZING! can’t remember the last time i went out to eat and felt so well cared for.  tasty food.  great vegan choices.  fresh, wonderfully crafted dishes, organic- even the doggie treats, and at one point or the other the entire staff asked us how we were, how was the food, and if we needed anything.  love this place will def be going back.  my Hard cold cash was well spent!

I’ve eaten here a few times now, and find myself wanting to come back more and more. The food is delicious, healthy, creative, and beautiful presented to boot (great job chef!). Reasonably priced too, especially considering everything is organice & local – can’t beat the taco plate (4 tacos for $10). The atmosphere is laid back and mellow, and the staff friendly and knowledgable. Good wine selection too. Highly recommended!

I have eaten here twice and enjoyed both meals. They also have excellent beer on tap. The service is certainly laid back and as far as I could tell the owner cooks all the meals. It is a small place but they are very nice and the food is local. I would certainly suggest giving it a try.

This place is great!  We each ordered one of the specials and shared so we could try more stuff and every one of them was very tasty.  You could tell each plate was made to order and packed full of very savory flavors.  The foods complimented each other and it was fun to try new stuff. I would say best fish tacos in Santa Cruz.  The service was friendly and attentive and atmosphere comfortable and clean. I highly recommend coming here.

We LOVE the pancakes, scrambles (made to order) and my FAVORITE is the huevos rancheros & soul juice.   See you this weekend at the Westside & Live Oak farmer’s markets!

Yep. This place is mighty fine. Coffee is outstanding. The food is excellent, fresh and clean. I ate the breakfast burrito today. The portions and the prices are generous–you get your money’s worth. I highly recommend.

My wife and I both enjoy this restaurant (cafe) best early in the morning when it’s quiet.  The coffee comes piping hot and the scenery of which to enjoy a bite to eat along with it is THE MOST!  Thanks for making a great place to connect with my love.

The food here is quality no doubt.  They are offer a wide selection of organic foods not seen at many places.  From Organic Beer to fresh blended Soul Juice to organic veggies delights, Conscious Creations satisfies the inner hippy within.  The price of organic vegetables and ingredients make this place a little more expensive than your average cafe but the quality of the ingredients and offerings listed make up for the extra money you pay.  Come on down and support Organic Local Agriculture and Conscious Creations Cafe, they are making the world a better place ONE BITE AND GULP AT A TIME!

This is our favorite spot in Santa Cruz. The flavor is amazing, the textures, the sauces, the rainbow of herbs and veggies, the presentation, the atmosphere…and to think that it’s all organic and fresh! Truly have never had anything this yummy, a perfect blend of Thai, Hawaii, S. America, and CA.
We don’t know what we’d do without you. Thank you so much, and thanks for making it comfy, down-to-earth, and super kid-friendly. (Nothing like an outdoor kitchen, puzzles and smiles for playtime while you wait)…xo

My husband and I decided to pop into this restaurant last week. I’d walked passed it a few times but hadn’t gone in as I’m not bothered about tofu and the like and thought it was a vegan style place. Whilst it does serve vedgie/vegan options there are options for meat eaters and I have to say that the food is absolutely delicious.

I read on this review page someone complaining of the service but we found them to be charming and attentive so I wouldn’t be put off as it may have just been a one off situation. If I were you I’d definitely go and check them out as the food is tasty, well presented and they use the best natural ingredients at a very reasonable price.  My husband claimed it was one of the best tasting meals he’d had, we will be bak there for sure!

Surprise surprise, this is a great local spot! We didn’t know what to expect at all but it’s now on our list of places to get good food. The wine list was obviously much thought about as we have not had a sub par glass yet. Somehow, I thought that this would be a half-hearted attempt at vegan or raw food or something but it’s nothing of the sort. The food is proper portions and simply delicious. I forget how much flavor is added to foods when you employ fresh herbs and whole foods. The plates look as good as they taste. I had their food at a catered event and was shocked at the tortilla soup. Tortilla soup! How the hell could it be so good! Yep, I’m a fan.

Honesty is what I’m providing…  I support local business and “conscious” eating, but I am also an aficionado of customer service, that’s why my review is only a 2.  The food is fairly tasty and the atmosphere is welcoming with lots of energy.  My main concern is their service.  I used to wait tables and help manage a restaurant so I am very opinionated about waiting tables.  I’ve been there twice and both times have felt neglected by the waiter.  There always seems to be one or two pleasant girls helping out, but the one, main waiter taking orders and ringing customers out can’t quite care for the whole place.  Expect a long wait to place an order, expect to wait a while for your drinks, and expect to get your delicious food without receiving utensils or a napkin.  I promise you I do not only yelp when I’m upset, but things cannot be improved without constructive criticism.  I DO like this place and want to support it because they have a great cause and overall vibe.  They support local music and a healthy lifestyle so that makes them important.  As soon as I see an improvement in the way the restaurant is run, I’ll take this down and give them four stars.

Excellent! Been there two times and has not failed us. First with the puppy, great outside area. Definitely can taste the fresh local veges and everything has been flavorful. The owner is awesome, we will be back.

Best veggie lasagna EVER!!  If you enjoy clean, fresh, wholesome food, this is the place to go.  Outstanding service from Luis (obviously NOT from Santa Cruz), chef came out to the table to tell us about the food (another rarity in SC).  Really the best food I’ve had in a long time.  I highly recommend it and will be returning many times with family and friends.
Really a great neighborhood gem!

We had dinner there twice.  Both times the food was great, but the service could be improved.  The staff should be looking to make sure the customers have what they need and spend less time on socializing.  Hopefully they will fix the service issues.

But the food is fresh and very creative.  We liked their meatloaf.

Had a great three course dinner with vegetable tortilla soup, full of large chunks of fresh seasonal veggies, an organic harvest market salad with kale, chard, cabbage, spring greens, mint, carrots, etc, with a great dressing, and Turkey meat loaf, awesome gravy with chunky mashed potatoes.  A meal full of great organic food, taste and health! Every time we go lure coursing with our whippets in Hollister, we will stop in Santa Cruz to eat here.  I have a niece that lives very close to this cafe and friends that I’ve raved about the great organic food served here and they are all anxious to try this wonderful eating experience themselves.  Wish you were located in San Diego so I could eat there more often.  Hope to eat there again soon!  Patricia MacAulay

AMAZING FOOD!   I enjoyed the happy hour special tonight of 2 fish tacos and a pint of Santa Cruz organic amber, while my son was entertained with numerous games & puzzles.  He devoured his quesadilla with avocado and a glass of ‘soul juice’.  We will be back, for sure.
